College Internship Opportunities
As a college student in Journalism, Marketing, Business, English or Communications you more than likely need an internship to complete the requirements for your B.S. In an economy where many companies are laying people off, internships are actually opening up all over the place. So you have a nice group to pick from. How do you choose the best college internship opportunity? It really can be broken down into 3 main things:
Location: If you are wanting to go abroad to get a taste of the world, there are internships where you can go pretty much any place in the world.
What You’ll Learn: This would seem to me the most important factor in determining where you should intern. If you are stuck writing memos or pushing around papers, especially in an unpaid internship, you have every reason to quit and find something else. That’s the beauty of an internship, you can quit whenever you like. One thing to note is that most employers are looking for bright people, and putting an intern through a rough period of work really weeds out the people the company wouldn’t hire.
Who You’ll Meet: Internships are rarely labeled as a networking opportunity, but they are. You should proactively request recommendations from your internship coordinator or adviser for contacts in the industry. You would be surprised where simply asking the question can get you.
